Summer evenings are made for outdoor dining. Dinner becomes a special occasion in which you slow down, savor the shade and gentle breezes, and watch the sunset while catching up with friends and sharing some of your favorite foods. A friend and I took the opportunity to dine on the patio at Taqueria 27 in Holladay last week. From beverages to desserts, we relished each part of our experience.
My friend is partial to red wine, so she ordered and enjoyed an Argentine malbec. I wanted something lighter with more citrus, so I chose the T27 Rita which was a wonderful choice for a warm evening.
For an appetizer, we shared a T27 Classics Sampler that comes with a choice of guacamole, choice of salsa, street corn, and queso fundido, chips, and warm flour tortillas. We opted for roasted guacamole (charred sweet and spicy peppers, roasted garlic, Mexican oregano, and balsamic reduction) and a medium salsa. All four items in the sampler were delicious, but my favorite was the queso fundido because of its slightly smoky, savory flavor. The sampler also provides generous enough portions to be almost a meal in itself. It would be a great choice, paired with another small menu item, for a lighter meal.
For our main courses, my friend chose mushroom and veggie enchiladas, and I ordered salmon tacos (one grilled and one fried). My friend expressed that she really liked her enchiladas. Salmon is one of my favorite types of seafood, so I enjoyed my tacos. I found that I preferred grilled salmon to fried salmon in this case because it was lighter, more tender, and the salmon flavor was more prominent.
We ended our evening by sharing an order of fried ice cream and an order of churros served with whipping cream and chocolate syrup. Between the two desserts, we preferred the churros because they were a good balance of soft, crispy, and lightly sweet.
